Permission to be true…

Hi, my name is Olivia Felicity and I am a photographer and proud owner of the Panasonic GX7. My lived experience has made me curious of how the natural environment can be a reflection of deep human emotions. In particular I am curious about grief, as it is so often ignored. I have come to learn that expressing grief is healthy, essential to our healing and ability to move forward. My mission is to capture grief in a way thats endearing and brave in an attempt to drop the veil of shame that tries to keep it in the dark and hidden places.

I want to capture the natural environment in its full surrender to what is. In un-staged truth.

Hydrangea petals burn on a hot summers day but it continues to bloom as best is can despite its dry and brittle edges. Imperfectly perfect.

Why the name Aperture of Grace?

The word Aperture refers to the blades inside a camera lens that controls the amount of light that enters the camera. It’s a channel or tunnel so to speak.

Grace is an unmerited gift.

I want my photography to be a channel of Grace. To give permission to be true. To capture a moment of truth be it joy or grief.

The leaf represented in the logo is the leaf of a Ginkgo tree. The Ginkgo is the only tree that survived the Hiroshima atomic bomb and so is a symbol of endurance, resilience, of survival and hope.

Truth is often heavy to carry. When a rose head matures fully it becomes too heavy for its stem to hold and therefore droops its beautiful face towards the ground.

To show up sometimes all we can muster is the back of our head. The heaviness of our hearts keeps us downcast. None the less, like this rose the back of its bloom is still dressed with elegance. We just need the eyes to see it.
